Following up on the rumours of dangerous, magical concoctions, Aidarion recruited König and Haldor to head into the area south of the Old Imperial Fort.
Following the directions given to them by a brown bear, the group found what at first appeared to be a mining camp. They entered peacefully, but were ambushed by the camp’s leader, Edl, when it became clear they wanted to inspect the mine itself. After a fierce and desperate fight, the adventurers managed to kill him and escape his followers. They eluded pursuit and sought shelter in a cave for the night.
The next day, they returned to the camp to find it evacuated. The mine showed signs of deadly toxins having killed all living things inside it, and the group decided not to push deeper.
They set out in pursuit of the fleeing ‘miners’, and soon met a patrol of Longstrand soldiers from the Old Imperial Fort. Together with them, they rounded up all the fleeing smugglers, and sent a message to Nîla that they had found what Sigmund was looking for.
When they returned to the mine, they found Sigmund arrived with a dozen Darklings, taking care to deal with the release of toxic magic. He was very pleased, and promised them remuneration for their trouble if they returned to Nîla’s tower.
On their way to do this, the group stopped by the fort, where König enquired after someone called Ringavista. One of the soldiers seemed to recall her passing.
Then, on the way to Chepdale, the group encountered young Sir Ulric, son of a count of Longstrand, and his eight retainers. He asked them if they had seen any ruins from the Dromess Empire. Answering in the negative, they parted ways amicably, with Ulric blessing them in the name of Tilaus.
On approaching Nîla’s tower, the group were met by Lorelei, who gave them a hefty sum of gold. When queried, she mentioned that Nîla was interested in finding adventurers willing to travel to the shores of Lake Moringwe, and there place an experimental object for use in teleportation research. Apparently it should be easy to find the lake: Travel north from Chepdale to Lemyanost, and then follow the War Trail.
